'Misery' explores the breakdown of relationships, focusing on the emotional mind-set you can find yourself trapped within, of constant circles, emotional blocks and barriers stopping you from moving forward. It’s about that unsettling feeling when content is unexpectedly taken away. The pieces produced are visual representations of the artists emotions taken directly from her written diary.

'Delirium' is a series of self-portraits based upon emotional entrapment within a state of negativity. The series was taken in the artists bedroom, with this personal space becoming a metaphor for her trapped emotions. The work was heavily influenced by Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s Novella The Yellow Wallpaper, which is about a woman confined to a bedroom, who becomes over time, infatuated with the wallpaper. With reference to the title Delirium, Perry felt that its definition of a confused state was reminiscent to her own  emotional state.

Melancholia 6

'Melancholia' is series based on the exploration of the artists melancholic temperament. Created in a deeply personal space, a metaphorical theatre, in which she is able to explore these emotions in front of the viewer’s gaze. The camera acts as a looking glass into the most private of feelings, normally hidden from view. Perry is  interested in the merging of her body and the space in which it inhabits. This display of merging moves beyond the visual representation, into the tactile reality of the emotional theatrical

'I worry' is a series of expressionistic photographs, that explore the notion of worrying, something the artist has struggled with since childhood. The work reveals intimate details of the artists emotions, with her expressive 'mind drawings' drawn upon instinct, providing a physical dimension to the human psyche. As well as revealing intimate details of the artist's life, the work is also an expression of universal emotions creating an intimacy and connection with the viewer.

'To Draw my past' was produced over a period of 14 days in which the artist confined herself to her bedroom in an attempt to rid herself of past emotions. During this time she produced 96 works consisting of text and drawings creating a bibliographical portrayal of her past. She then photographed herself in front of the drawings re-living thus ridding herself of past emotions.

'Traces' are a series of private performances documented on film, allowing a series of film-stills as well as short performance pieces to be created. By allowing a trace of the body upon another form, similar to a shedding of skin, the artist sheds a particular thought/emotion, thus ridding herself of it. As well as exploring the boundaries of self-representation, the work provides a physical dimension to the human psyche. The performances explore the link between art and its cathartic function, a source of constant exploration by the artist.
